December Madness

If you are like me, December is a wonderful and chaotic time of year in the art room. We are wrapping up artworks and getting ready to end the semester course or just reaching the halfway point of year round classes. There is a festive spirit, but also a little stress as everyone tries to wrap up grading while keeping students interested in the couple weeks before break.

This post will be short and sweet, and hopefully solves the ever present question: What do I do when I’m finished?

I created this Holiday Artwork Choice Board to give students an opportunity to explore holiday themed artwork independently. Our final artwork will be due before break, but there will no doubt be early finishers needing some guidance in the last few days before exams. I am already bogged down with grading final artworks for my 225 students, so this will allow students some independent choice while their slower classmates wrap up graded assignments.

These are all materials we have used in class so they have prior experience with the techniques. Students can create for themselves or use the opportunity to create gifts for loved ones.
