Daily Doodle | Trumpet Painting

This watercolor trumpet is inspired by the legendary Miles Davis. My students are currently creating their jazz collagraph printing plates and we’ve been listening to Miles Davis on repeat. Continue reading Daily Doodle | Trumpet Painting

Daily Doodle: Deer Skull Drawing

I’ve been teaching my 5th graders different shading techniques and this deer skull has been staring at my from the corner of my classroom just begging me to draw it. Continue reading Daily Doodle: Deer Skull Drawing

Daily Doodle: Crappie Painting

Growing up on the lake, fishing with my dad and grandad was my favorite thing. My siblings and I always thought it was hilarious anytime someone caught a black crappie and loved the excuse to call it a “crappy fish”. https://youtu.be/o72ECTIOdYw Continue reading Daily Doodle: Crappie Painting

Daily Doodle: Fishing Lure Live Painting

Spring break started with painting on the dock while my sister in law fishes. I love the sunfish cameo, but don’t worry, we threw the fish back! The only hiccup was the sudden rain storm that passed within five minutes, but washed away my first base painting! https://youtu.be/omOxgRfgynU Continue reading Daily Doodle: Fishing Lure Live Painting

Donut Drawing!

https://youtu.be/rmKT2fD3wP8

Instagram

We have been creating old school landscape collages exploring Surrealism.
I am so inspired by this collection of hand artworks. It always makes me proud when students persevere and push themselves out of their comfort zone. Their creative range impresses me too, since this was mostly a technical contour drawing exercise!
Starting our color theory practice on Monday with Art II!
Our watercolor drip Zentangle sketchbook covers are finished and attached! Who knew the hardest part of this project would be lining up clear packing tape without bubbles?
I have been torturi- excuse me, teaching my Art II students (a mix of 10-12th graders) observational drawing using hands as our inspiration. After lots of guided contour drawing practice with a timer, students began creating compositions with their favorite gestures.
Final artworks are done! I love the mixed media approach and how diverse the different styles and subjects are. Observational drawing does not have to be boring, and I love hearing my students question where their images are coming from.
